Also known as Y2K, the year 2000 began with the fear that all computers would reboot once the 00 in 2000 hit the clocks. This didn’t happen and actually the year 2000 introduced some technology, such as the first camera phone, the USB flash drive and Bluetooth, that are indispensable in today’s tech dominated world. Y2K was also big for Transgender awareness. The first trans pride flag was displayed at the Pride Parade in Phoenix, Arizona, and Hilary Swank won the Academy Award for Best Actress for her role in Boys Don’t Cry, the movie based on the brutal true story of Brandon Teena, a transman who was brutally murdered in 1993.
